So my host-sister Laura and I are planning to go tonight, it will be so much fun! Hope many people from school are coming, and that I still know how to ice-skate, haha. It's some years ago since I did it the last time, unfortunately. But this will be my first time in The Netherlands :D

Got a nice day? Yes? Good! Me too! But I don't recommend you to wear something like this at school if you have to bike... It was a bit cold. The tshirt says "Smile with your eyes". Maybe you could try that to someone today? With me it didn't succeed, because I always open my mouth and laugh as well. But sometimes just a smile with your eyes is the best or cutes to do.

As always, I am a bit late. But who cares. The year still has threehoundredandsixty-something days!

2011 was a great year. I have experienced so much, and met so many people who I didn't think would be this important to me. When I was thinking about the positive highlights of this year, two things came up: The We will rock you- musical that I joined in March, and me moving on my own to an other country in August! I came up with one negative highlight of this year, which will be remembered for the rest of my life: 22.July. The terror-attac and shooting-massacre at Oslo and Utøya. A day no Norwegian will ever forget.

It has been a year with a lot of ups and some downs. Eight months of this year, I spent in my first homeland, Norway, and the last four in my new homecountry, the Netherlands. I have been so lucky and gotten a great hostfamily, new friends and meet a new culture in a strange country not far from my own.

2012 will be even more exciting than 2011 I think. This is the year that I will turn 18 and also officialy will be a grown-up! I can't even believe it my self. How am I, I, ever going to become a grown-up? I can't even boil potatoes without something going wrong... Well, it will be exciting to see, and I am looking forward to it anyway. It will also be the year that I have to choose between a Norwegian or a Dutch nationality and also passport. And it is the year that I am moving back to Norway again. I don't know if I will be able to. But time will show.

So what are our wishes for 2012, people?
*find love
*loose weight
*get better grades

no, I only have one big wish:
*being happy with whatever decitions I make, and live my life as if tomorrow never comes. Spreading happines to everyone I see, and I wish for healthiness to everyone I know.

I love the Dutch city Groningen. Everytime I'm there I just feel like I belong there! And once in the future, I know I will. Yesterday I was back there again with my exchange student-friends: Stine, Sarah and David. We went there really early, had breakfast at Starbucks and went around in the stores and bought christmasgifts for each other.

Had to take a picture to prove that I was there!

From the Dutch "Party of the Animals", I got a flyer with receipes for good vegetarian christmas-meals.

These last few weeks have been a lot about prepairing for the big holiday in the Netherlands; Sinterklaas! And on saturday it is finaly here! I have been prepairing my gift and "Surprise" for quit some time now.. Really looking forward to saturday and to give it away to the lucky person! The way they celebrate Sinterklaas here is totally new to me.. I come from Norway where we celebrate christmas, and get gifts on 24th of December. But this will bu fun too, I just know it!

My hosmom har been a totally marimba-freak lately and watched a thousand films on youtube with marimba in them. I looked at some with her and found this the coolest:

Halloween is coming up and it is on everyone's lips these days. It's not a big party, not here and not in my other home-country But still everyone are up for scary happenings now. Scary movies, or a nice Halloween-party. Well, I am not one of those. I like the autumn because of the beautiful colors and the fresh wind and the lovely rain. Not the scary part. I am a very easily frightened person, actually. So to get my thoughts under control, and to let you all know what kind of dagers you must not put me into, i made a list. As always. And please listen to this song while reading!

The list goes like this:

-Dogs or people with dogs that I meet when I go jogging. It is soooo scary! I freak out, but try to stay calm. I don't breathe in while passing the dog and his/her scary owner, and if possible I run to the other side of the street before passing them

-Breaking a leg. It looks so painful! I have never had very much pain anywhere, actually. But to me, breaking a leg seems like the most painful pain of the world.

-Failing on stage. When I perform, I am so afraid of doing something wrong! Okay, unnecessary to write this, I think everyone that has ever been on stage knows that this is a must to make a good concert...

- Not doing my best/ not being good enough. I am so afraid that what I do isn't good enough. I always have high requirements to myself.

- Mosquitoes. I am so afraid of them! I have nightmares about them, also when I am awake! True story!

- When I was little and woke up in the middle of the night, I was always afraid that there was a lion in my room. I didn't even dare to turn around and turn on the lights to see. I just laid still and hoped I would fall asleep again. I don't know why the lion scared my so much, but still sometimes I can feel a bit afraid when I wake up in the night and feel like there is a breathe somewhere near...

- Horror movies! I have not even seen one yet, but am scared by only the thought of it...

Nuff said? I think so for this time... This post makes me look like the most afraid person ever, but I dare some scary things! I promise...

Today I played for the first time with my new band! We don't have a name yet, but we will find one this weekend. We play jazz, funk and pop, and I think it was so fun to join! Now I am all in the skies because of the nice jam this morning, that I am just sitting here listening to jazz and funk. Right now Till Brönner is on, and I love it. He is the best trumpetist after Miles Davis! Or, maybe I should not say that untill I am completely shure, but anyway he is pretty close!

What to do in the autumn

The autumn is here- but so what? Many of you are probably sad and upset because the summer is all over again, but don't be! I think the autumn is the best part of the year, and in this blog-post I will try my best to make it yours too! Just have a look at my to do-list in the autumn, whether you're alone or with your friends.

Alone:

-I love jogging. Unfortunately there has been no jogging the last two months, because of my unusually full planner, but there will be! In the fresh breezes and nice colors I think it's beautiful to just take a run with some good music and just watch everything that I pass.

-If jogging is not an option, biking will do. Or at least here in the Netherlands. I love riding my bike in the rain! Everyone are looking at me as if I'm insane when I say it, but it's true, I really enjoy it!

-Tiding my closet: isn't it time to wrap the flowery summer-dresses up and put the sandals aside? Make room for some new, warm clothes in your closet. Or if you have already bought some, try to make some outfits with them. Take your time with it and enjoy it! Hang the clothes nicely on the wall or try them on and adore yourself in front of the mirror!

-Home-spa: some scented candles and a warm bath reading your favorite mag is not bad! Bring a good cup of tea or some peaces of dark chocolate, and you will feel like you are in heaven.

-Books: don't you have too many books that you wanted to read, but "didn't have the time to"? I say: turn of the computer and sit down with a new, exciting, romantic or funny book! Outside the wind can blow as much as it wants to, but in your book a whole new world is opening up to you :)

-Make a spotify-list with some new music, or music you have never listened to before, and learn all the songs by heart!

With friends:

-Go shopping!
-Bake a cake, and invite someone to eat it up!
-Have a movie-marathon! Watch three seasons of Friends, Gossip Girl or Desperate Housewives, or all the movies where Leonardo di Caprio has a main role!
-Pen-pal: write letters with someone you know that lives far away, or that you just don't see that often! Nowadays everything happens over the internet, so getting a letter in the mailbox is very exciting! (or at least I think so, and I have a pen-pal in Norway <3)
-Go to a concert! Bring your friends and see an artist you have never heard of before, or maybe someone you are a huge fan of is having a concert near you these days? Enjoy, and sing and dance as much as you can!

So I hope you will try out at least some of the things above, and always remember:
a smile is the nicest accessory

Hey people!

Are you all having a good time? Stressed about getting back to your routines at school / work? Well, me too! But not only getting "back" to routine, but getting INTO a routine! A new one! I am at a new school, in a new town, in a new country. Everything is new! I really haven't gotten into any rhythm yet.. But it's ok. And my life is sweet and so are the people I hang around with. And that's how it is supposed to be!

Hello! Today is my birthday! I woke up at 7.30 and really didn't know what to do. Yesterday, my family said that I couldn't go downstairs to the livingroom if I woke up early, so I guess they have some secret business going on down there for me! :-D So I ended up here by the computer. There has been very little blogging going on here lately, and I am very sorry about that! But my life has been about anything but blogging the last weeks... You see, I have moved from my 1st homeland to my 2nd! For almost 17 years now I have lived in Norway with my family. But now it was time for a change, and I am now living in the Netherlands for one year at a host family. I am going to school like any other 16-year old here, and the main goal for this year is to better my dutch and learn more about the dutch culture. Until now I am having a great time! Of course, new school, new home, new people everywhere is different, and some times scary, but I am really enjoying my time here!

Rihanna's Loud Tour!

I have not been updating for a while, and I am sorry about that. But I have been to Bergen and seen Rihanna live! It was a really, really good show, and I think she did a great job! She also made a little extra number where she sang a song by Bob Marley and the names of all of the victims of Utøya and Oslo were scrolling down on the screen. I got big respect to her for doing that!

Molde International Jazz Festival

My little band, Gerritdina Quartet, performed for about 20 minutes during Moldejazz. We performed 5 songs, mainly by female jazz-artists. Miles Davis. The legend that is still living among us in his music. I love his music, his style. He was, and still is, a huge idol for so many musicians. Including my self! His music is interesting, but nice. He dared to do things that other jazz-musicians had not done before him. He made funky rhythms and played outside the key. He had a very special way of playing his trumpet. A way no one had tried before. With Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker as his idols, which he also met before his first concerts in New York, it's not surprising that he became as good as he did. I am just happy it was him that became the huge jazz-star. Not someone else. But the one- Miles Davis..

Today I challenge you all to hear at least two recordings of Miles Davis. Maybe you'll be surprised? The music can be hard to follow at first if you are not that into jazz, but if you just try, I think you will like it!

Yestarday my best friend Anette and I went to Åndalsnes to experience the rock festival RaumaRock! It was amazing, and we loved the concerts! The main reason why we were there was the swedish singer Veronica Maggio. We are both huge fans of her, and she had a great show! She is known for her songs "Måndagsbårn", "Jag kommer" and "Satan i gatan". She played all of these and many more! Some pictures for you:

We also saw the Norwegian band DiDerre. They were fantastic!

In two days Molde will be on it's most chaotic state of the whole year - the Molde International Jazz Festival is officially opened. This year I will play in three different concerts, and probably watch twenty! Can't wait to hear all the good music and get surprised by all the different music types that will appear. Molde International Jazz Festival is Norway's oldest jazz festival, and it is one of the most visited festivals in the summer.

This weekend is spent with practicing, practicing, practicing for the different concerts. Yesterday I came home from 10 days in France. I love France - the people, the food, the society in it self and the climate.

I'll maybe post some pictures from France later, but the next week I will probably just be busy with my music and visiting concerts! :-D

Hello!

Today I have bought tickets for Raumarock, which is a rock-festival in Åndalsnes, not far from here. I am going there with my bestfriend, Anette, on the 6th of August. Can’t waaaiiit!
Before that I am singing in my own concert, not a very big one, but still. It is during Molde Jazz festival, and I am singing with my band, Gerritdina Quartet. We are doing numbers like “Don’t know why” by Norah Jones and “What a difference a day made”
Later this summer, I am going to Oslo and Fredrikstad with my other bestfriend, Ingunn! Those cities are further away so we have to go by plane!

As I mentioned, I am also going to see Rihanna in concert in the end of the summer! It is going to be such a good summer!

Camp Norddal

This weekend I went to a little village called Norddal, some hours away from here, to join "Camp Norddal". We slept outside in a lavvo (I don't know if you know what that is) and we did many outside activities. It was a lot of fun, and I met many new people. A succesfull weekend!! The pictures downloaded totally chaotic, so they are not in the right order... But just look and enjoy :D

The weekend has been great, and I will post pictures later, but right now I have good news to tell you: I am going to see Rihanna live this summer! Haha, I am not even a fan of her! But I am going to anyway, don't say no to seeing a super-famous star like her :D The concert is in Bergen in August this summer, and I have to listen to some of her songs before I go, haha! First day of summer!

Hello people!

Today was my first day of the summer-holiday, and it couldn't been better! First, I played tennis with Anette and Monika, before we went to my house and made lunch, which we enjoyed in the garden.When we had finnished our lunch, the sun was still shinig, so we decided to go swimming! It was iiiice cold, but very much fun! And now I can finally say that I have had my first swim of the year...

Tennis and surfing are my favourite sports, and luckily I will experience both this summer! Tennis is allready started, and I can't wait to play it more! Think I'll have a match next week as well! ;)

New jumpsuit! And the denim jacket is about one year old. Here I am "posing" in my garden in front of the house, and it was soooo embarrassing, because it felt like my neighbours were watching me! But noone was, I think (hope)!

This picture was taken this weekend when we threw a party for my little sister at my grandfather's farm. It was a lovely day, and we spent some time out-doors with activities like this: rope-jumping (?) I really don't know if that's the word! But in Norwegian it is called "Hoppe tau" and it's just jumping over the rope as it comes to you. This was an activity that I used to do outside with my friends when I was a little girl, but it is always fun to catch such games up again and find the child inside of me! :D

The vacation is almost here, and I can't wait for those lazy days in the sun and to meet my friends and hang out.

Today I have spent the day watching the graduation-students doing their exams in music, main-instrument. They were really good, and looked professional to me! Once I got home I started playing my saxophone, because I was so overwhelmed by the good musicians!

Anyway, the guests just went home, we had guests for dinner, to celebrate my sisters' 14th birthday! It was a pleasant evening with pizza, gelly (do you know what that is?) and chocolate cake!

My sister and I last spring. What I am wearing is not so easy for people from other countries than Norway to understand, but it's a Norwegian dress. Every area in Norway have their own design, and we wear them at baptices, confirmations, weddings and on the national day of course!

Here we are in Groningen, the Netherlands, one of my favourite cities!

Unfortunately I did not get any pictures of the guests today, because they didn't like being photographed... But it was a lovely night!

Soon the first year of "High-school" will be over, and it has been one year since I split up with these amazing girls. We all had so much fun together and were a fantastic gang. But we all had different interests, so we went our own ways and hardly ever see each other any more. Tonight we had a lovely "reunion", and caught up with talking, laughing and playing Alias.

Love my girls, and no matter how far away from each other we live, we will always stay in touch and have fun when we are home in our home-town! :D

NORAH JONES

Now I'm going to write a post that I have written before, on my old blog, and it was in Norwegian. But I'm going to translate it into English.

Norah Jones is one of my biggest idols when it comes to singing. She has a beautiful voice, and she sings various types of music, both jazz, pop, some kind of country and rock. She plays the piano by her singing, which I like a lot, because I do the same. http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norah_Jones also writes that she learned to play the saxophone when she was younger. So she can both sing, play the piano and play the saxophone, plus the talent of writing wonderful songs!

My favourite song by Norah Jones is "Beautiful Friendship", which is not her original song, but has been sung by many people. But surprisingly enough I can't find it on Spotify or Youtube, so I can's post it here :( Other nice songs she has sung are "Don't know why", "Come away with me" and "Sunrise". She became famous after releasing her album "Come away with me" in 2002, and it sold to 20 million. This album includes the song "The long day is over", which is perfect to fall asleep to. After 2002, Norah Jones became one of the best-selling female artists of the world!

In 2009 her album "The Fall" was released, and the song "Chasing Pirates" is so cute! I love it, and have listened to it hundreds of times. Just can't get enough of it!

Tomorrow is Norway's national day! And I am going to be marching all day with the school band/marching band/ music-playing-people (?) Not so fun, because we start at 7 am, and walk around in the streets in the city and play music until 5 pm.. But we also eat ice-cream and eat sausages and have a lot of fun!

How was your day? Mine was good, even though it is Friday the 13., that many people associate with bad luck and everything.

Let me tell you readers a story, if you don't mind reading it. I am a new person. I don't want to tell you here on the blog why, but I can tell you that it is a wonderful feeling! I feel free, but at the same time, I feel bound to something. Something good, and worth smiling for. I am overwhelved by the feeling that I have finally found what I have been searching for. No, it's not about love or any of that. Not about music, either. But I am happy, and I hope you could read this without getting too curious! ;) I will share a beautiful song with you. It's called "Call off the search" and is sung by one of my favourites, Katie Melua! She is such a talented singer!

Yes, don't you? Well, then there's a pair of us. I am not supposed to write such things on my blog I guess, but actually I hope they read it, and maybe they'll understand how hard this is, not only for me, but for many people around them.

Have spoken with some people about this, and many feel hurt and confused wether they are still friends or not with ..... But I guess I shouldn't complain. I have many friends, I don't need those who don't need me, right?

Soooo happyyyyy!!

Isn't life just wonderful? So full of happiness and joy and reasons to smile and laugh!
Here is a very good example. My friends and I on the dockside yesterday in the sunny weather. It was a great day. And I'm really looking forward to the Molde International Jazz Festival in July! It will be the best week of the summer I think!

How are you? I am fine! I had a great vacation, and am ready to go back to school! The following weeks will be busy, but it will be a lot of fun, though. Easterholiday

I love easter. It was always the holiday when my family went out to travel to different places. When I was little, we went to The Netherlands, or to Sunnmøre to visit my cousins. Last year, we were in Berlin! The best city I have ever visited! This year, we are just relaxing, and enjoy every day as it is. I am not the best skier, so I'll drop skiing. It's raining anyway!

Easter is also about winter turning to spring here in Norway, and it's beautiful to see the flowers bloom in Molde!

Today I have enjoyed listening to this splaylist on Spotify. It's not all jazz, but very easy listening music. Love it!

I'm going to start something new, if you don't mind. I'm going to pick out my favourite cd's from the different genres, and tell you a little bit about each of them. Most of it will be jazz or funk, but you'll see what comes. Maybe I'll take some R'nB or pop later. Anyway, I am starting with these albums, in the genre female vocal jazz:

I love all of these so much, have listened to all of them many times!

1. Melody Gardot - My one and only thrill

This cd will always mean a lot to me. It was the first jazz-album I got, and it made me realize jazz was it. After I got this cd and listened through it 10 times or so, i was taken. No way back. And Melody Gardot is still one of my biggest idols. I adore her as a singer and musician, her music is just amazing. All the songs are so personal, and there is huge effort in each and one lyric. I absolutely love the album, and will never get tired of the songs "If the stars were mine", "your heart is as black as night", and "les etoiles"!

2. Diana Krall - Live in Paris

Some months ago I went to Oslo, and came by a cd-shop. And suddenly I recognized a familiar name: Diana Krall! I had beed looking for her album for ages! I was very, very happy, and listened to it for three days when I got back home. It's so amazing! She has the best jazz-voice ever, and her pianoskills are incredible! The best song on this album is "East of the sun and west of the moon".

3. Katie Melua - Pictures

I have listened to this a lot, especially when I am travelling, taking the bus, plane, train etc. because I have downloaded it on my iPod. It has some pretty relaxing songs and the lyrics are very cute. Katie Melua is also, like the two above, one of my biggest idols. Her voice does not reach very high, but she has a very nice tone in her voice.

4. Hilde Louise Asbjørnsen - Never ever going back

This one is very... interesting. The first time I heard it, I didn't like it at all. But after listening through it some times, it got better, and after a while I started to understand the music. It is very special, and I think many listeners would like to listen through it some times before they understand it. But when you first get it, it's very nice and kind of childish, actually. I have not made up my mind about any favourite tracks on this one yet, but if you listen to it yourself, you will probably find some!

5. Esperanza Spalding - Chamber music society

This was also a cd I had to listen through some times before I understood it. At first I thought it was just noise and rubbish, and I couldn't find the beat. But after I heard the first songs songs over and over again, it all made sence. "Little fly" and "Wild is the wind" are my favouites! And PS! She is Barack Obama's favourite artist! She is a performer at The White House!

6. Lisa Ekdahl -En samling sånger

The Swedish singer/songwriter/musician Lisa Ekdahl is liked in this house. I have grown up with her songs and know some of the songs by heart. I have not listened through this as many times as the other ones, but when I listen to it, I get kind of a summer-feeling and a sort of happyness inside me. The songs are lovely and cute. My favourite is of course "Vem vet".

Ever seen Fame, the TV-show or the movie? My school has a lot of similarities from that show. We go to school and have normal classes like English, Norwegian and mathematics, but we also have theatre-classes and learn to play instruments and to sing and dance. Today and tomorrow we have our mock exam in Singing, Drama and Dancing. I am really looking forward to it, and think it will be successfull. We practised all day long today, and everything seems to go in the right direction. I brought my camera to school and made a collage out of the pictures. You're welcome!

If you have never seen Fame, I really recommend it to you! It's the best movie ever! And the TV-shows from the 80's are also really good!

Billy Elliot

Today is our preparation day for the English mock exam. Our topic this time is Sosial equality. We just saw a movie called Billy Elliot, and now we are back in the classroom. I thought the movie was very good, so I thought I could write a little bit about it here as a part of my preparation.

The movie is about a young boy called Billy Elliot. He comes from a working class family and lives in a poor neighbourhood. His father is a miner, and Billy's mother died when he was young. He lives in a very small house whith his father, brother Tony and his grandmother.

Billy is a boxer. He goes to practice almost every day, and he likes it a lot. But one day, a ballet class comes to practice right after Billy's boxing class, and he stays to look at them. The ballet and the music really catches his attention, so he joins in. The teacher can see that he has talent, and wants him to continue to have ballet classes. At first he refuses to admit that he likes it, but he continues to show up at the practices however.

Billy's father finds out about his ballet interests, and is furious about it. At the same time, Billy's friend, Michael, really likes that he dances, and one day Billy catches Michael all dressed up in his sister's dress and wearing make-up. So we kind of figured out that he was gay.

The movie gets a turning point when Billy's dancing teacher decides to send him off to the British Ballet School. He has to practice for the audition and gets under a huge pressure. His father thinks he has quitted ballet, so it doesn't make it any easyer that he has to hide everything from his family either.

But then Billy goes to the Audition with his father, and everything turns out to be okay. He gets in to the school, and in the end of the movie we can see Billy as a grown up, playing the main role in the Swan Lake ballet.

I liked the movie a lot. It was funny and the actors were good. Even though I didn't describe the movie very funny here, it really was! It's just that the humor had to be seen and heard in the movie, and can't be described here. The story was good, and contained both the theme about social equality (or inequality) and the prejudices that can occur against both gay people and male ballet dancers. I recommend this movie to everybody! It suits for all ages I think :-)

(This blog was written in English because I am practicing for my mock exam. But I actually enjoyed writing in English, maybe I'll start doing that!)

I morgen er det igjen tid for konsert i BarAlex! Da er det gruppa Sommerfuglfisk som står på scena, og et tror jeg blir en bra konsert! Har hørt litt på dem nå i det siste og liker stilen. Det er stort sett Storyville jazz club/ BarAlex jeg skriver om her på bloggen, men det er rett og slett fordi det ikke skjer noe mer interessant i livet mitt, iallefall ikke som har noe med jazz eller annen bra musikk å gjøre.

Pianoet mitt, det fantastiske pianoet mitt! Over til venstre har jeg hengt opp noen av smykkene mine og hatten min.

En 94 pomerol-vin er brukt som blostervase, og til venstre på pianoet står et bilde av Anette og meg i Amsterdam.

Jeg liker rommet mitt. Det har blitt så koselig og jeg trives med å være der. Jeg spiller der, synger der, leser der og sover der. Liker spesielt hvordan det har blitt rundt pianoet nå. Skiltet til venstre har jeg kjøpt selv, det passet så utrolig bra over pianoet, mens bildet til høyre fikk jeg av Ingunn.

Nå er det tid for å gå på rommet og øve litt. I dag skal jeg øve på både klassisk, jazz og rock.

I to år har jeg blogget om musikk og livet mitt på blogg.no. Nå i det siste merker jeg at blogg.no har blitt litt treg og ikke passer helt til mitt bruk, så nå tenkte jeg å prøve ut noe nytt. Er ikke helt klar for å slutte å blogge, heller. Har så mye musikk å dele med andre, og liker å ha en blogg å dele alt det på.
